General Officers for 2010–2012

OFFICE OCCUPANT RESPONSIBILITIES
President General Mrs. Martha Van Schaick
(South Carolina)
General: Chief executive officer and official spokesperson of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Has general supervision of the affairs of the Organization and direction of the Business Office. Serves as an ex officio member of the Memorial Building Board of Trustees and all General Standing and Special Committees. Serves as Editor-in-Chief of the UDC Magazine. Approves new recipients for the Mrs. Norman V. Randolph Relief Fund. Renews the trademark of the United Daughters of the Confederacy name and badge. With the Recording Secretary General and the Business Office, edits the manuscripts of the Minutes of the Annual General Convention of her term.

Meetings: Presides at all meetings of the General Organization, including the General Executive Committee and the General Executive Board. At Annual General Convention presents a condensed annual report (excluding finances), including a report as Chairman of the General Executive Committee and General Executive Board.

Appointments: Appoints General Standing and Special Committees except as otherwise provided in the Bylaws and advises the Chairmen of their duties and the names of their Committee members. Fills all vacancies occurring in General Office, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee.

Finances: Signs all financial instruments and contracts of the General Organization except for those Annual General Conventions not held in Richmond, Virginia, or its environs. Administers the annual Operating Budget.
Vice President General Mrs. Ruth Allbritton
(Mississippi)
Assists the President General in the discharge of her duties; in the absence of the President General, assumes the duties of that office. Receives, processes, and approves all General insignia orders, Stonewall Jackson Medal and Winnie Davis Medal applications and fees. Serves as liaison between the Divisions and General, except in matters of arbitration and discipline. Assists the Registrar General in the formation of a new Division. Presides at Presidents Evening of Annual General Convention.
Second Vice President General Mrs. Faye Neville Serves as Director of the educational work of the Organization and as Chairman of the Education Committee. Receives, processes, and approves applications for scholarships offered by the General Organization.
Third Vice President General Mrs. Janet Johnson
(Tennessee)
Serves as Director of the Children of the Confederacy and as Chairman of the Children of the Confederacy Committee. Advises the President General CofC; supervises all CofC Officers and Committees; enforces the Code of Behavior and Rules of Discipline as established by the UDC; appoints an advisor for each Officer and Committee; signs Chapter charters, membership certificates, and transfers; arranges for and supervises the printing of the Minutes of the Annual General Convention and the compilation and printing of the Children of the Confederacy Handbook.
Recording Secretary General Mrs. Emily Champion
(North Carolina)
Records and distributes the proceedings of meetings of the Organization, including the General Executive Committee and the General Executive Board. Responsible for compiling and making arrangements for publishing the Minutes of the Annual General Convention of her term. Compiles the packet of Division President Annual report forms for mailing to the Division Presidents and Presidents of Chapters Where No Division. Receives all annual reports for publication in the Annual General Minutes. Assigns charter numbers for all new Chapters and signs/dates all charter application forms.
Treasurer General Ms. Joan Logan Brooks
(Virginia)
Serves as the financial agent of the General Organization. Receives monies, signs all checks (which shall be countersigned by the President General), deposits monies as designated by the Finance Committee; issues receipts for same. Sends delinquent notices by May 15 to each Division Treasurer to forward to Chapters in her Division who are delinquent in payment of General per capita tax. Serves as an ex officio member of the Finance Committee.
Registrar General Mrs. Shirley Woodlock
(Texas)
Receives, processes, and approves Original Membership applications, transfers, Chapter charter packets, and fees. Sends membership reports to the Business Office, President General, and Treasurer General. Develops membership and serves as Chairman of the Organization of New Chapters and Divisions Committee.
Historian General Ms. Retta Tindal
(South Carolina)
Supervises the historical work of the Organization, promotes the writing of historical essays, and stimulates interest in the history of the South and the War Between the States. Prepares a monthly historical program for Chapters to use at their meetings and publishes it as an article in the UDC Magazine. Receives, processes, and approves applications and fees for the Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal. With the President General, plans the program and presides at Welcome and Historical Evening of Annual General Convention.
Recorder General of Military Service Awards Mrs. Charlotte Clinger
(Virginia)
Receives, processes, and approves applications and fees for Military Service Awards (Cross of Military Service, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal, and Certificate of Appreciation to Servicemen/women). Plans the bestowal of Military Service Awards and assists the President General in the bestowal ceremony on Welcome and Historical Evening at Annual General Convention.

Conducts correspondence as requested by the Recording Secretary General and lives near her.
Assistant Registrar of General Ms. Ruthann Bond
(North Carolina)
Receives, processes, and approves all Supplemental Membership applications. Sends reports to the Business Office, President General, and Treasurer General.
Chaplain of General Mrs. Ann Butler Brown
(Florida)
Conducts memorial duties as requested by the President General, arranges and presides during the Memorial Service for Annual General Convention, and compiles a list of all members who died during the membership year. Serves as an ex officio member of the Benevolent Activities Committee and the Mrs, Norman V. Randolph Relief Committee.
